“It’s Your Neighbourhood” (IYN) is a RHS non-competitive category for small neighbourhood groups, organised in this region by East Midlands in Bloom. It’s free to enter!
It’s Your Neighbourhood is supported by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
IYN welcomes groups taking the first steps towards community regeneration through all year round events and activities. In a nutshell if you are a group of people who are keen to improve your local surroundings, whether a street, a green space, an allotment, church grounds etc (the list goes on!) or you are involved in/starting a community project, then this is the ideal way to get practical advice and recognition for your efforts.
Entries are not judged against each other but assessed on the RHS three core pillars of:
- Community Participation
- Environmental Responsibility
- Gardening Achievement
Assessment is carried out on an agreed date by experienced ‘In Bloom’ assessors during June – August who then provide valuable feedback and helpful advice on how to develop current activities and encourage on-going improvements.
Following the assessment each entry receives a report and is awarded a certificate, from the initial level 1 of ‘Establishing’ up to level 5 of ‘Outstanding’, which corresponds to the extent to which participants have met IYN aims and progressed each year.
Representatives of each entry are then invited to local presentation of awards in September/October.
By participating, there is also the opportunity to draw on the experiences of other local communities through a strong Britain in Bloom network. Local advice and an advisory visit can also be arranged by contacting East Midlands in Bloom.
More information can be found in our booklet It’s Your Neighbourhood Guidlines or contact us at secretary@emib.org.uk
To get involved simply complete and return the entry form IYN entry form and email to secretary@emib.org.uk before the end of May to register.
Remember there is no entry fee for IYN.
Have you thought of becoming an IYN assessor?
